Breaking the News
We designed a suite of illustrations, part of the wider design of the Breaking the News exhibition which challenged the way we think about the news, how we consume it and why it matters. Illustration was used throughout to help guide the visitor, to stir curiosity and provoke inquiry and engagement.
Mel created a hand drawn timeline of complex chronological themes and images that inhabited the space making connections and comparisons with news encounters centuries apart. In contrast, the destruction of Homs, Syria illustrates themes of conflict and a satirical illustration sees a humble pen threatening the status quo of our parliamentary representatives who run fleeing from giant splashes of ink.
We are delighted that the site specific timeline above has been shortlisted for the 2023 World Illustration Awards.
