Bolsover Castle illustration

This suite of illustrations were designed for Bolsover Castle’s new storytelling initiative and were incorporated into each of three newly commissioned costumes designed by Sophie Fretwell, to help engage audiences with live, face to face costumed volunteers.

The illustrations highlight three key narratives of the Castle’s story and its 17th century occupancy by William and Margaret Cavendish, the latter the author of The Blazing World, an early examples of proto-science fiction, and one of the most prolific female writers and extraordinary characters of the seventeenth century.
